About Us

Zumbiel Digital evolved from Zumbiel Packaging, a North American paperboard packaging producer that has been diligently serving customers for over 150 years.

Around 1995, a company called Indigo introduced the first commercially capable digital printing press. Twenty years later, much to our disappointment, industrial scale digital carton presses had yet to arrive on the market.

Impatient with the progress of the digital press industry, we decided to take matters into our own hands. Research confirmed that all the pieces of the digital-carton-press-puzzle already existed; some one just needed to put them together. And so, we assembled global leaders in the field of MEMS technology, inkjet printing, workflows, coating chemistry, press manufacturing, die cutting and control systems to engineer a digital line suited to our carton customers’ need for throughput, economy, color consistency and variable content.

After over two years in development, we are pleased to announce the arrival of the world’s first industrial-scale digital folding carton line at our manufacturing headquarters in Greater Cincinnati, USA. At over 100 feet in length and 30 tons in weight, it is a behemoth in the world of digital printing. Most importantly, with speeds in excess of 200 meters per minute, inline coatings, backside printing, and inline die-cutting, we are able to economically produce fully variable content for high volume folding carton customers. It’s what we call “production digital,” and we think it may be a glimpse into the future of packaging.
